Lebanon urges collective efforts to fight terror

Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil has underlined the urgent need for cooperation among all countries to uproot terrorism.

According to Press TV, Bassil said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi on Thursday, terrorism has now turned into a serious threat to all countries in the region and the world and all countries are concerned about its unprecedented growth.

Bassil highlighted Iran’s standing in the region and said cooperation among regional countries plays a significant role in settling the Middle East’s woes.

He expressed hope that the crisis in Syria would be settled, saying the turmoil has negatively affected Lebanon. He touched on the issue of Syrian refugees streaming into Lebanon, saying the influx has imposed a heavy cost on the Beirut government.

Roknabadi, for his part, said Iran follows a foreign policy to boost interaction with regional countries.

He said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has done its utmost to strengthen solidarity in the region and believes that regional problems should be solved by regional countries,”

The two officials also discussed the further expansion of bilateral relations between Iran and Lebanon.
