Two people are killed and seven others injured when two rockets hit a populated area in Libya’s northeastern city of Benghazi, a medical source says.

The mortar attack hit Sidi Hussein neighborhood in Benghazi on Sunday, the source from Al-Jalaa Burn Hospital said on condition of anonymity.

The shells were fired from Benghazi’s al-Sabri area, which has witnessed fierce clashes between the Libyan army and militants in the last four months, the source quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

Some other sources, however, put the number of the wounded at 30.

It was not clear whether the shells were fired intentionally or were stray.

Libya plunged into chaos following a 2011 uprising against ousted dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The ouster of Gaddafi gave rise to a patchwork of heavily-armed militias and deep political divisions.

The clashes among the rival militants are mainly over the control of oil facilities in eastern Libya.
