Mass protests broke out on Friday in a number of Libyan cities against the parliament’s call on the United Nations to support the so-called Operation Libya’s Dawn, launched by militants against the troops of retired general Khalifa Haftar.

The protesters voiced their support for the operation, but rejected foreign intervention, and condemned the parliament’s move as “compromising Libya’s sovereignty.”

On the other hand, the libyan parliament was quick to issue a statement, stressing that its call on the UN aimed at pressuring the fighting groups in Tripoli and Benghazi after their refusal to accept a ceasefire.
