Maduro seeks extra powers to face US ‘imperialism’

President Nicolas Maduro has proposed an anti-imperialist Law in face of the recent US sanctions which list Venezuela as a threat to US security. The sanctions authorize Washington to freeze the assets of seven Venezuelan officials within US territory on allegations of their involvement in violation of human rights.
Maduro is urging the National Assembly to grant him special powers for extraordinary measures to protect Venezuela against imperialist aggressions.

The opposition however claims Maduro’s move is an attempt to gain more power in order to repress his political rivals and violate their human rights.

But on the revolutionary side, socialists claim Venezuela deserves respect as a sovereign and democratic nation and that they support all government’s efforts against foreign intromission.
