Majlis approves Iran-Qatar security deal

The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) has approved a security agreement reached between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Kazem Jalali, the spokesman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the security agreement was approved on Tuesday.

Ahmadinejad Sheikh Hamad agreed on Sunday that the security of the Persian Gulf region will be maintained through all-out economic, cultural, and defense cooperation.

“Widening the scope of cooperation between Iran and Qatar, with the two countries’ officials remaining alert, can establish lasting security in the region and reduce threats from outside,” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in Doha on Sunday.

Cooperation on facilitating visa procedures for Iranian businesspersons and taking strict measures to combat narcotic trafficking on the borders are a part of the agreement.
