Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Sunday warned against escalation of extremism and terrorism, threatening global security and stability.
According to IRNA, in a meeting with former European Union foreign policy and security chief, Javeri Solana in Tehran, he said that campaign against terrorism is not a tactical issue for the world today, rather it is a necessity and strategic.
Larijani said, terrorism has gained double growth in the region in the past decade and it has now turned into an acute international problem.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian Majlis speaker called for Iran-Europe cooperation to open new horizons to settle Iran nuclear issue.
He noted that as far as nuclear issue of Iran is concerned, conditions have changed dramatically compared to the past and steps should be taken to remove misunderstandings based on new realities.
Solana, for his part, said that efforts should be made to remove misunderstanding on Iran nuclear issue, using the chances available and new mechanisms to go ahead with dialogue.
As for Syria and regional issues, the former EU security official said that Geneva-2 Conference is significant and necessary.
Referring to European economic crisis, Solana said Europe faces a hard and difficult way to settle economic crisis.
