Iran arrests four Jundallah terrorists

Iranian security officials say they have arrested four members of the Jundallah terrorist group who had planned to carry out acts of sabotage in Iran on upcoming occasions.

The public security police of Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan Province took necessary measures after receiving information about the terrorist group’s plans for Lailatul Qadr (Night of Destiny) ceremonies and the Quds Day and Eid al-Fitr rallies in Iran, Mehr News Agency reported Saturday.

Sistan-Baluchestan Province’s Public Security Police Chief Masoud Heidari said security and civil forces were placed on high alert in the province and law enforcement officers in neighboring provinces were also briefed so that Jundallah’s activities could be vigilantly monitored.

According to Heidari, on August 2, three Jundallah terrorists were arrested as they attempted to depart for Kerman Province with “explosives, weapons, and ammunition.”

The Iranian police chief said that, the confessions of the detained terrorists led officials to their hiding place in one of the village of Khash Town, where they had stored explosives and firearms.

He added that a fourth terrorist was arrested in a joint operation with Khash police and intelligence office.

The Jundallah terrorist group, which operates from its major base in Pakistan, has carried out numerous bombings, assassination attempts, and terrorist attacks in Iran.

Its leader Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested by Iranian intelligence forces in February 2010 and executed in June for 79 counts of crime, including manslaughter, armed robbery, bombing operations and armed attacks on Iranian police and civilians.

Rigi stated in his confessions that he had dealings with the US government and was promised unlimited funds and resources for “waging an insurgency” in Iran.
