Malaysian FM says Malaysia acknowledges Iran’s nuclear rights


Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said on Thursday that Malaysia acknowledges Iran’s legitimate rights to produce nuclear energy.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Aman said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has the right to produce in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty to which Iran is a signatory.

Te meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Malaysian foreign minister underlined that Malaysia will never withhold its support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Aman said that Iran is a major trade partner of Malaysia and that Malaysia will spare no efforts to broaden economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He called for the two sides private sectors to play active role to expand economic cooperation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran plays leading role in regional and international developments, he said adding that his country is to broaden all-out ties and cooperation with Iran.

Aman called for implementation of the economic agreements already signed by the Iranian and Malaysian officials.

Salehi, for his part, highlighted Malaysia’s great economic potentials and said that Malaysia is the gate to capture eastern Asian market.

Salehi called for expansion of joint investments in both Iran and Malaysia and called for upgrading the current level of trade.

Referring to ongoing developments in the region and the Middle East, he strongly condemned the double-standard as well as incongruous policies of western governments in the region and the entire international community.
