Man fatally shoots, stabs 2 in Germany’s financial capital

German police say two people have been killed in a shooting and stabbing incident at a state court in Frankfurt.

According to the reports, police sources said the two victims, aged 45 and 50, were pursued at the courtyard in a courthouse complex in Germany’s financial capital at about 8:45 a.m. local time on Friday.

The attacker fired shots and fatally wounded one of the victims at the scene, while the other victim fled inside the building. The suspected assailant then followed and stabbed him, said police spokesperson Ruediger Reges.

The second victim died shortly afterward at a local hospital.

Reges said the suspect ran away on foot but was shortly captured near the courthouse.

Frankfurt authorities have provided no additional information on the details about the victims’ identities, as well as any word on a possible motive.

The attack marks the latest in a series of violent incidents in Germany.
