Thousands join a funeral ceremony near the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank to bid farewell to a fellow Palestinian hours after he was shot and killed by Israeli live fire.

Bilal Zayed’s body was carried overhead during the ceremony at the Qalandiya refugee camp and buried at the camp’s cemetery on Thursday, the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency reported.

The 23-year-old received a bullet in the chest during clashes between camp residents and Israeli forces trying to break into the facility.

Zayed was the fourth Palestinian from the camp to be killed by Israeli forces in the last 24 hours.

Thursday also witnessed the fatal shooting of three other Palestinians across the occupied territory.

In one incident, a Palestinian was shot dead at an entrance to an industrial zone at the illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel after being accused of stabbing two guards, who according to Israeli police, had sustained moderate injuries.

Another Palestinian was killed near the city of al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern West Bank.

Tensions have risen across the occupied Palestinian territories in response to stepped-up raids by Israeli extremists on the compound of al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site, as well as their fatal attacks on Palestinians and their properties.

Regime forces have killed over 130 Palestinians since early October amid the escalation.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has voiced concerns over the excessive use of force and “extrajudicial killing” of Palestinians by Israeli forces. The body says that the circumstances surrounding several of the Palestinian deaths over the past weeks remain disputed.
