‘MENA revolutions defy hegemonies’

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei says the Islamic Awakening in the region is primarily aimed at reviving the national and Islamic values and reinforcing resistance against the Western hegemony.

The main principle of revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa is the revitalization of national dignity which has been undermined and trampled by dictatorships under corrupt rulers and domination of the US and the West, Supreme Leader said in an address to participants in the first international conference on Islamic Awakening on Saturday.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei added that the revival of Islamic values, restoration of the right to justice, development and flourishing, and resistance against the US and European hegemony and Zionist Occupation Israeli aggression were among other basic tenets of the revolutions.

The Supreme Leader also warned Muslim countries of the West’s schemes to defeat revolutions.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei urged Muslim nations to stand up against foreign interference in their countries and not fall for the enemy’s false promises and claims of support.

The Leader of Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei called on Muslims to abstain from putting trust in the US and the West and said the enemies are trying to defeat revolutions through terrorism, civil war, sanctions and propaganda campaigns.

The Supreme Leader also urged Muslim countries to avoid ethnic and religious divisions and pointed out that mutual understanding between Islamic factions is key to victory.

The Supreme Leader further called on Muslims to rely on God and His promises, and to practice common wisdom, determination and bravery in order to overcome problems and threats.

Islamic factionsalso referred to Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution as an important chapter in history which has inspired the regional developments.

The First International Islamic Awakening Conference opened in the Iranian capital Tehran on Saturday.

More than 500 scholars and prominent figures from 80 countries are participating in the two-day event.

The conference will also discuss and analyze the history and basic tenets of the Islamic Awakening as well as figures that have played a role in such movements.

The in-depth study of a unified Islamic front and the issues and problems it faces as well as the goals and prospects of Islamic Awakening are among other topics of discussion during the conference.
