Military Sources: Syria’s Missile Power to Determine Outcome of Possible Attack

“Syria’s missile defense systems have been developed over the past 20 years and they are powerful and unique covering a specific area each…,” a Syrian army source told FNA in Damascus on Saturday.

He further reiterated that the Syrian army is fully ready to confront any military attack on Syria.

“The political circles and analysts reckon that the US will begin its military attack by firing (cruise) missiles from its warships (in the Mediterranean Sea) and then British fighter jets will target Syria’s military bases,” the sources added.

He underlined that the West’s infantry forces are unlikely to invade the Syrian soil because in that case the US and the British troops should wait for their full-fledged massacre and heavy losses.

Earlier this week, Syrian Defense Minister Lieutenant General Fahd Jasim al-Furayj said the Syrian army and people are ready to confront any form of military aggression on the country by western powers, promising to decisively respond to any attack.

Al-Furayj stressed that criminal terrorists have deliberately used chemical weapons, killing women and innocent children to get more support from the West in order to blackout their defeat, thus misleading the public opinion to justify their continued crimes, Al-Manar reported.

Last week, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel revealed that the White House is studying different military options against Syria under the alleged pretext of using chemical weapons.

While both the Syrian government and the foreign-backed militant groups accuse each other of using chemical weapons, a UN investigation team is in Syria probing into the incident.
Russia has presented the UN Security Council with documents proving that the rebels have conducted the latest chemical attack which took place on August 21.
