Minister of State for National Reconciliation Ali Haidar, stressed that the West committed a “historical mistake” when it decided to sever diplomatic  ties with Syria and then came back to “correct the mistake from the backdoor.”

In a statement to reporters following his meeting with the Irish Ambassador resident in Cairo and accredited in Syria Isolde Moylan, Haidar said the ambassador carried no political message but she wanted to clear some points and she was answered, adding that this visit is one of the attempts of diplomatic approach to Syria.

He pointed out that the Syrian government rejects talks about humanitarian needs if they were not subject to the system of the state and preserving its sovereignty, and the solution to the crisis in Syria is based on two different tracks; the international solution and the Syrian solution through launching a political process that helps solve the crisis.

We wanted Geneva 2 Conference to provide an objective structure that helps launch political process which cannot be launched without international cooperation, taking into consideration that the Syrian solution needs two parallel lines: The first is finding objective environment among Syrians and the second is launching the political process, Haidar said.

He stressed that international community has to shoulder the responsibility of combating terrorism with the Syrian state and ensuring the political process to launch pan-Syrian dialogue.

Concerning the national reconciliation, Haidar explained that national reconciliation is going on and it is implemented within the protective framework of reconciliation, adding that remarkable progress has been made in several areas in Syria.
