Ministry of Health: Sanctions Imposed on Syria Have No Impact on Medicine Sector

Minister of Health Wael al-Halqi on Monday said that the sanctions imposed recently on Syria will not affect the health sector as it depends on national and qualified cadres offering services through 124 national hospitals and 1890 health centers.

The Minister added that the medicine sector is also well-protected since the locally-made medicine covers 92% of the local market needs.

During a tour of Douma Specialized Hospital, Minister al-Halqi stressed that the Ministry has a strategic supply of materials essential to medicine industries which are enough for over a year.

He said the hospitals receive emergency cases and provide their medical services for all civilians and military members despite their identity or affiliation.

For his part, Director of Douma Hospital Abdullah al-Asali said “medicine supply in the hospital is enough for 6 months and it covers around 5000 surgical operations.”
