Mohammad Ehsai’s works achieve high bids at Sotheby’s Doha
Veteran Iranian calligrapher and painter Mohammad Ehsai’s artifacts have fetched high prices at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art auction in Doha.

Listed among the auction’s first top lots, Ehsaie’s work Love which is an acrylic and silver leaf on canvas in six parts achieved USD 437,000.

His other creation Allah, which is an oil work on canvas in twelve parts, was sold for USD 197,000 at the auction.

Farhad Moshiri, Nasrollah Afjeie, Jamshid Bayrami and Rokni Haerizadeh are among the other Iranian artists whose works shined at this year’s auction in Doha.

Born in 1939, Mohammad Ehsai is one of the leading artists incorporating Persian script into new artistic expressions shaped by Islamic art forms.

He studied at the Fine Art Faculty of the University of Tehran and joined the faculty as an instructor in 1971.

His artworks have been displayed in many prestigious art centers and museums, including The State Hermitage Museum, and been warmly received at contemporary art auctions.

Ehsai has won numerous national and international awards, including the Award for the Best Designer of the Year (1973), the ISESCO Honorable Mention (2005), and Iran’s National Award (First Degree Medal) of Art and Culture (2005).

Mohabbat (Affection) and Sama (Sufi whirling) are among Ehsai’s most famous works.
