Moroccans Urge Legal Ban on Rapprochement of Ties with Israel

Thousands of Moroccans took to the streets on Sunday to voice strong support for the Palestinian nation and call on Rabat officials to consider as “crime” any resumption of ties with the Zionist regime of Israel.

Large numbers of Moroccans marched in support of the Palestinians in Casablanca and Rabat, the country’s two main cities on Sunday.

During the rallies attended by different political parties, unions, legal and political bodies, people chanted anti-Israel slogans and asked the government to consider as “crime” any effort to resume relation with Israel.

Media reports said that protesters in Rabat, who numbered more than 45,000 according to police, condemned Israel for “crimes against humanity” during the assault that killed more than 160 Gazans, and criticized Washington for supporting the Zionist regime.

The peaceful demonstration also called for the liberation of Palestine and occupied Quds (Jerusalem).

Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane headed the march, alongside other government ministers and Khalid Sefiani, coordinator of the Moroccan Action Group in Support of Iraq and Palestine, one of the organizers.

A similar demonstration was held in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city, attended by numerous NGO activists as well as activists, notably from the Party of Justice and Charity.
