Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has vowed to continue its protests until the reinstatement of ousted president, Mohamed Morsi, the country’s first democratically elected head of state.

The group on Tuesday condemned the recent violence in Egypt and held the army-backed interim government responsible for the bloodshed across the country.

There were many initiatives to stop such killings, but those behind the military coup rejected them all, it stated.

The group described Egyptians as the leaders of the 2011 revolution, which toppled longtime dictator, Hosni Mubarak, noting that it is their legitimate right to stay on the streets until Morsi returns to power.

Muslim Brotherhood also said it would stand against the interim government’s efforts to return to the Mubarak era.

Political tensions in Egypt have escalated since Monday, when Muslim Brotherhood leader, Mohammed Badie, was arrested in an early morning raid in Cairo’s Nasr city.

Following his arrest, Muslim Brotherhood named senior member, Mahmoud Ezzat, as the party’s interim leader.

Hundreds of people have been killed in the past days as the result of the government’s brutal crackdown on people protesting against the “military coup” that removed Morsi from office on July 3.

The violence has sparked an outrage across the globe and triggered demonstrations in several countries. Meanwhile, international bodies have called for an end to the use of lethal force against Egyptian protesters and called for independent investigations into the killings.
