Mortar shells injure 17 in Syrian capital

Mortar shells injure 17 in Syrian capitalSeventeen people have been injured in mortar attacks by foreign-backed militants on different parts of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Police said the attacks were carried out on Saturday and that a hospital in the al-Qassa area of Damascus was also damaged.

Over the past months, militants have repeatedly targeted residential areas, hospitals and healthcare centers across Syria with mortar shells. Hundreds of hospitals have gone out of service due to the strikes.

Syria has been experiencing turmoil since March 2011.

Western powers and their regional allies especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey have been supporting the militants fighting against the Syrian government.

Reports say more than 150,000 people have so far been killed and millions of others displaced due to the crisis.
