Mottaki resignation rumors denied

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has rejected rumors about the resignation of his Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki as psychological war and propaganda.

Following the circulation of rumors about Mottaki tendering his resignation in some foreign media outlets, Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that “Mr. Mottaki will continue his work…and he attended the cabinet meeting today.”

The Iranian president said the rumors about Mottaki were part of a Western propaganda campaign, Fars News Agency reported.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast also denied the rumors as “baseless.”

“News sources which are mainly after serving the interests of the enemies of regional countries are constantly trying to cause discord in Islamic states and to weaken them in face of the threats issued by the Zionist regime [of Israel],” IRNA quoted Mehmanparast as saying.

He advised the news agencies seeking to sow seeds of discord sources among Iranian officials and authorities to stop their “immoral ways.”
