‘Mourning for Imam Hussein is essential intellectual component’

“Mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is one of the essential intellectual, political and ideological components Muslims should abide by,” said General Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought.

Making his remark in a series of meeting for Islamic mourning mounted in holy city of Qom, General Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohsen Araki placed accentuation on the subject of commemorating martyrdom of Imam Hussein (PBUH) counting it as a necessity and essential intellectual, political and ideological component Muslims should take the cognizance of and abide by, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

“In holy book of Quran, what sets human’s identity is the Imam they take as their leader and abide by his command,” said the grand Ayatollah noting this is the true symbol of human identity.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Araki noted Muhammad Prophet (PBUH) is the symbol of our unified identity and it is incumbent upon Muslims to consider his teachings and instructions.

The unyielding stand taken by Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) grandson Imam Hussein (PBUH) against evil in Karbala many centuries ago continues to inspire the seekers of truth and justice even to this day.

With this connection, General Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought stressed Muslims should follow principles Islam Prophet and mourn for his grandson Hussein (PBUH) invite them to consider in their lives.

Imam Hussein and a small group of his followers along with family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time – Yazid – in 680 AD. They were martyred in a battle with Yazid’s large army known as the Battle of Karbala on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, the first month on the lunar calendar.

To many Muslims, Imam Hussein (PBUH) is not only for Muslims and for Shia. Imam Hussein (PBUH) is for the whole universe. The message of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is peace, humanity, and sacrifice.

In their lines, Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) uprising was aimed at reviving Islam and teaching Muslims to rise against bullying powers.
