Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi underlined that Iran as one of the firm advocates of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) can help expand the treaty with the help of its monitoring know-how as well as skilful manpower if Tehran’s civilian nuclear rights are recognized by the relevant international bodies.

Speaking at a Saturday ceremony in Tehran, Salehi called on the six powers involved in nuclear negotiations with Iran to seize the opportunity of the talks to interact with Tehran, adding, “If the nuclear issue is settled, the NPT will definitely be strengthened and this will be advantageous for us, them and the international community.”

Iran, an NPT-signatory, has repeatedly asked for Israel’s disarmament and removal of all weapons of mass destruction from across the globe.

In pursuit of global nuclear disarmament, Tehran held a conference on nuclear disarmament on April 18-19, 2010 with officials from different world countries in attendance. During the two-day conference, world officials and politicians put their heads together to address issues and concerns in connection with nuclear disarmament.
