NATO chopper crash-lands in western Afghanistan

344043_NATO-chopperA helicopter belonging to US-led troops has crash-landed after coming under attack by Taliban militants in Western Afghanistan.

According to a NATO statement, the helicopter was damaged during clashes with the Taliban militants in Herat Province.

Italian troops were onboard the chopper when it came under attack. The incident didn’t cause any casualties.

The militants have previously shot down a number of US-led forces’ helicopters across Afghanistan, as part of their operations against foreign troops.

Taliban have also claimed that a number of US-led soldiers had been killed in those incidents.

There has been no letup in the Taliban attacks on US-led foreign troops across Afghanistan with US-led troops and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban attacks on an almost daily basis.

Taliban militants have recently increased violence against US-led forces in Afghanistan targeting NATO helicopters and drones.

According to the latest figures released by icasualties.org, more than 3,411 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country more than 12 years ago.

The rising death toll of US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan has prompted growing opposition to the Afghan war in NATO member states and other countries that have contributed troops to the military occupation.

The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of so-called war on terror. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity remains across the country.
