US still kowtowing to Israel on Iran: Analyst

369644_John-Kerry-IranUS Secretary of State John Kerry’s latest statement about Iran is not very significant but it still bothers some people that Washington feels that it must kowtow to Israel, a political commentator says.

James Fetzer, professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota Duluth, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

In an article published on Monday in The Washington Post, Kerry said time is running short for Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, known as the P5-plus-1 group, to reach a deal on Iran’s nuclear program.

Kerry once again accused Iran of discrepancies between its words and actions and said that Iran should make the right decision and prove that its nuclear program is totally peaceful.

He also said that the negotiations, which are set to end on July 20, will not be extended if the United States and its partners see the process as a tactic to kill time.

“The latest from John Kerry is a further revelation of the extent of which the United States is under the influence of the Israeli lobby – sad to say – because everything has been progressing well in relation to negotiations for final agreement to constrain what is in fact a non-existent nuclear weapons program by Iran,” Fetzer said.

“All 16 the United States’ intelligence agencies concluded as long ago as 2007 [that] Iran has not [been] pursuing [a nuclear weapons program] — a conclusion they reaffirmed in 2011 which means that the United States’ foreign policy in relation with Iran has been inconsistent with the best intelligence from its own intelligence agencies,” he added.

Last week, Israel sent a high-ranking delegation to the United States to discuss the final deal between Iran and the P5+1. The Israeli lobby in the US has been working hard to sabotage Iran’s nuclear deal with the world powers.

The editor of Veterans Today said, “The hypocrisy of the United States has “no where been more manifest than now when John Kerry responds to the Israeli lobbying group coming to Washington to apply pressure in its efforts to sabotage the agreement between Iran and the other nations involved there – the P5-plus-1.”

“The United States would do well to completely ignore the Israeli delegation but no doubt for political purposes this statement is being made by John Kerry. It maybe a tissue paper fan and has no significance but it still bothers some that the American government feels that it must kowtow to Israel, which…in fact has a vast arsenal of undeclared nuclear, biological and chemical weapons,” he noted.

In November last year, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States — plus Germany signed an interim nuclear agreement in Geneva, Switzerland.

Under the Geneva agreement, the Sextet agreed to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period.

The agreement came into force on January 20. Iran and the major powers have set a July 20 deadline to clinch a long-term nuclear deal.

This week, Iran and the P5+1 group continued their talks in order to reach a final agreement.
