Necessity of a unified stance against sectarian crimes
Former Iranian ambassador to Pakistan warned against religious extremism counting lack of a unified stance regarding sacrilegious groups is the reason for Muslim nations to be the main victims of extremism.

On the eve of Arbaeen ceremony, mourning ceremonies held 40 days after martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) third Shia Imam, a bomb explosion in Pakistan killed 19 Shia in Pakistan.

Violence against Shia is intensifying in Muslim countries while similar extremist moves have also happened in Indonesia where Shia community in the country has been subject to attacks.

Taqrib News Agency (TNA) in an exclusive interview with Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian, former ambassador of Iran in Pakistan discussed his views on the intensification of Wahhabi, Salafi and Taliban attacks against Shia communities during Muharram and Safar.

He referred to the increase of extremist moves during the mourning months of Muharram and Safar and said,” The reason for birth of a country called Pakistan was the demand of a nation to form an Islamic land but the recent extremist measures in the peninsula has deteriorated disunity among different denominations.

He noted that Shia Muslims comprise a majority of the population in Pakistan and stressed that as the reason why extremist groups are trying to undermine the security and accusing the Muslims in this country.

Former Iranian ambassador to Pakistan also said the violent behavior of the extremist groups will be quite costly for the civilians and accused Salafis as the brainchild of these movements which aim at undermining Islamic solidarity.

This former official demanded Pakistan and Afghanistan authorities to take basic measures against these violent crimes and said,” During the past years, some regional rulers, have supported these groups with the hope that they can benefit from extremist groups and use them in line with their political objectives.” And added,” This is while all these moves have turned to their disadvantage.”

He stressed the necessity of reaction from the public against religious crimes and said,” These extremist groups have aimed at destruction of Islam and follow the policies to breach Muslim unity.

He expressed regret over lack of a unified stance among Muslim countries and said that is the reason why Muslim nations are the victims of such painful crimes by the extremists.

When asked on the influence of western countries on increase of anti-Shia reactions in the peninsula and also the Middle East region he said,” Regional presence of foreign countries during the past ten years has led to the increase of extremist moves in these countries.

This Iranian official stressed,” What is quite obvious is the all-out support of some Middle East and Western countries for radical groups.” And added,” Had it not been for their support, we should have not been witness to constant crimes against different Islamic denominations.”
