New Al-Quneitra offensive gets off to a fast start

Earlier in the year, the Syrian Arab Army and Hezbollah launched a massive offensive called “Operation Martyrs of Quneitra”; while they were initially successful in capturing numerous villages and strategic hills, the mounting casualties and stalemate resulted in the temporary halt to the offensive.
However, with the recent success in the Qalamoun Mountainsand the drain on resources/manpower that the rebel offensive in Daraa city is experiencing, the SAA’s 9th Armored Division has launched what is described as the “triangle offensive” on several key locations inside the province.

The goal of this operation is to capture the area around Quneitra, Daraa, and Damascus, which vaguely represents a triangle, while also cutting off the rebel supplies completely.

While the main objective is still al-Harra, the SAA – backed by the NDF, Fouj al-Joulan, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Quneitra – have begun advancing towards Umm Batna, with the eventual hope of securing this area, along with Al-Samdaniyah Al-Sharqiyah, and Ajraf.

This will, if captured, will mark the beginning of the inevitable battle for Al-Haraa.

This also comes only days after the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Army and Armed forces, Defense Minister Lt. General Fahd Jassem Al-Freij took a visit to the Quneitra countryside under the directive of President Bashar Al-Assad in order to prepare for a new offensive.
