Next Islamic Unity conference theme: Holy Qur’an

An Iranian cultural authority referred to sectarian intrigues in the world of Islam and hailed the theme for the upcoming Islamic Unity Conference, holy Qur’an.
Mohammad Baqer Khorramshad, Head of the Organization of Culture and Islamic Relations in an exclusive interview with Taqrib News Agency (TNA) referred to the background of Islamic proximity among Muslims and said, “Islamic Denominations might not agree in some topics but they all follow some important principles and the issue of unity among Muslims had been stressed by Muslim scholars especially when disunity had aided non-Muslims to dominate Muslim nations.”

Member of the Supreme Council at the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought said,” Proximity was proposed so that different Islamic denominations could convene and discuss their shared interests.”

He added,” In other words Muslim luminaries came to the result that commonalities exceed disagreements while the world of Islam is suffering from that more than anything else; hence, coming to a unified view is the most important issue for different Islamic schools of thought so that they can defend themselves and guarantee their interests.”

Head of the Organization of Culture and Islamic Relations also referred to the opposite side of proximity and stressed,” Quite naturally, proximity has its enemies including great powers and Zionists from outside the world of Islam and also extremists Islamic groups within Muslim nations.”

According to Mohammad Baqer Khorramshad an atmosphere of proximity has to expand among elites and religious leaders.

He also expressed his assessment of the Islamic unity conference in institutionalizing proximity among Muslims and said,” One of the ways to assess proximity achievements is to imagine a world without that.”

He added,” The least advantage of Islamic Unity Week is the convention of Muslim leaders from different denominations who discuss the issues of Muslim world, exchange views and meet each other in the sideline of the conference.”

He referred to the holy book of Islam as the theme for the upcoming Islamic Unity conference noting,” In regards to the Takfiri atmosphere which has spread across the world of Islam, to gather all Muslims around an axis seems to be quite proper and one of these important axes is holy Qur’an.”
