After the Friday prayers, Nigerian protesters gathered in the northern city of Kano and chanted slogans in condemnation of the Saudi Arabian regime over the continued incarceration of political prisoners in the Arab kingdom. The protest has become a global event designed to publicize the persecution of thousands of political prisoner in Saudi Arabia.

Protesters in Kano called on Muslims around the world to rally in support of the Saudi political prisoners. They called on Riyadh to release all prisoners of conscience and end the continuous persecution of Muslim minorities in Saudi Arabia. The protesters accused the Saudi government of serving the interests of Israel, the United States and other Western countries.
One of the most renowned political prisoners in Saudi Arabia is Sheikh Nimr Al-Nimr, a leading Shia cleric who has been sentenced to death on trumped-up charges.

According to the protesters in Kano the only crime the imprisoned Saudi Muslims have committed is their belief.
