Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs hailed the recent nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, whose implementation started on January 16, saying that it put an end to Iranophobia project pursued by certain countries.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear deal) was the victory of multilateralism over unilateralism, and demonstrated that the win-win approach is an efficient one in the fields of international affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi said on Thursday.

“Use of coercion and sanctions is a failed policy, and does not at all help the resolution of international problems. The era of resorting to such methods is over,” he said in an address to a high-level roundtable on ‘Return to diplomacy’, which was held at the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris.

By preparing the cultural grounds and education, the UNESCO can promote dialog and multilateralism in the resolution of international issues and regional crises, terrorism and extremism in particular, he added.

He further pointed to the Iranophobia project pursued by certain countries before and during the course of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany), saying they continued such efforts even after the nuclear talks by spending millions of dollars, but failed to reach results since the JCPOA was an end to such plots.

For the third consecutive year, UNESCO and the United Nations University joined forces to present a conference on vital issues of our time, through the high-level roundtable.

During the roundtable, Takht Ravanchi, who was one of Iran’s negotiators in the nuclear talks, and his French counterpart Nicolas de Riviere voiced their opinions on the recent talks, and explained the role of diplomacy from conceptual and practical points of view in the resolving ongoing crises.

In addition to Iranian and French officials, such renowned figures as President of United Nations University David Malone, Editor in-Chief of Le Monde Alain Frachon, Director of the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage Mounir Bouchenaki, and several deputy heads of UNESCO delivered speeches.
