Nuclear electricity high on Salehi agenda

New Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi says the construction of nuclear plants for electricity production will be a top priority in his tenure.

According to Press TV, Salehi at his Saturday inauguration ceremony said “We can even export the generated electricity and our activity will be commercial in that respect; as the country already exports around 2,000 megawatts of electricity.”
he said Different areas of the Iranian public life, including industry and medicine, will be the second priority of Iran’s nuclear industry.
On Thursday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani appointed former Foreign Minister Salehi as vice-president and head of the AEOI.
Elsewhere, Salehi pointed to Iran’s meticulousness on the safety of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in south of the country, saying, “Ensuring the safety of the plant is the top priority and electricity production comes next,” he noted.
Bushehr NPP officially became operational in September 2011, generating electricity at 40 percent of its capacity.
Salehi also expressed optimism that the administration of President Rouhani would resolve the issues regarding Iran’s nuclear energy program in such a manner that they would lead to a win-win outcome.
