Number of Russian pilgrims to Mecca increasing

PilgrimsAfter two decades of disintegration from the Eastern Bloc, the number of Russian Muslims who travel to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj is increasing each year.

According to a Russian Muslim physician who has traveled to Mecca several times for the pilgrimage, the enthusiasm of the Russian Muslims, the youth in particular, to travel to Mecca is increasing so that within the past two years the figure has passed beyond the quota the Saudi government has allocated to Russian pilgrims.

In the first years following the disintegration of the communist system in Russia, the Russian Muslims had not enough information about Hajj rituals and could not properly take the spiritual opportunity. But in recent years, due to numerous Islamic centers across the country including Moscow and St Petersburg, the Muslims receive proper trainings for performing the Hajj rituals correctly.
