Obama the ‘most naive president’: McCain

Republican US Senator John McCain calls President Barack Obama “the most naïve president in history” for his foreign policy tactics regarding recent Ukraine clashes and his handling of relations with Russia.

He told a Phoenix radio station that Russian President Vladimir Putin “played us so incredibly,” The Hill reported on Thursday.

“The naïveté of Barack Obama and [Secretary of State] John Kerry is stunning,” he added, citing the Obama administration’s plans for Iran and Syria.

One day before his comments, McCain and Sen. Chris Murphy announced they were preparing a bill to sanction Ukrainian officials for cracking down on protesters.

On Wednesday, President Obama said that his country is ready to impose new sanctions against Ukrainian officials responsible for deadly violence in Kiev which has taken at least 75 lives according to Ukrainian health officials.

“This thing could spiral out of control into a major international crisis,” McCain warned. “The first thing we need to do is impose sanctions against people in leadership positions, including the oligarchs who control this collapsed economy.”

The Arizona senator rejected the possibility of military option in Ukraine.

“We’re not going to intervene militarily; we’re not going to send a single troop over there; we’re not going to put a single person in harm’s way,” he said.

When asked by a listener that why he is “pro-Obama” on some issues while “anti-Obama” on others, McCain implied that he has never been “pro-Obama.”

“Tell me when I’m pro-Obama,” McCain said. “Friend, you are totally misinformed. … You’re lying.”
