‘Obama will continue backing israel’: Activist

US President Barack Obama will continue backing Israel despite the re-election of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the constant crimes committed by the Zionist regime, an American activist, blogger and author says.

Obama is “pretty serious about continuing with his support for Israel regardless of the results of the Israeli election,” David Swanson told Press TV on Sunday.

“That includes of course billions of dollars of free weaponry every year and the legal protection of the United States veto at the United Nations for any crimes committed by Israel,” Swanson said.

“I think that basic policy will remain in place regardless of the rhetoric,” he added.

Obama has warned Netanyahu over his opposition to a Palestinian state and for making racist comments about Arabs living in the occupied territories.

Obama told Netanyahu on Thursday that the US will “reassess” its ties with Israel following the prime minister’s provocative statements during his re-election campaign.

Netanyahu said on Monday that if he was re-elected to office, the Palestinians would not get the independent state they seek in the occupied West Bank, East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Gaza, which has been a key element of Obama’s foreign policy.

However, Obama said the disagreements would not interfere with the military and intelligence cooperation between the United States and Israel.
