Israeli forces have clashed with Palestinian protesters near Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank, reportedly using live bullets and injuring dozens of demonstrators.

Protesters marched on Wednesday near the Israeli regime’s Ofer detention center west of Ramallah in solidarity with hundreds of Palestinian prisoners still on hunger strike to protest the “administrative detention” by Israeli regime forces without charge or trial.

The clashes erupted after Israeli forces fired tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the protesters.

Three demonstrators were initially wounded after Israeli forces resorted to firing rubber-coated steel bullets. Dozens of protester also suffered from excessive tear gas inhalation.

The incident occurred at the same site where Israeli forces shot dead two Palestinian teenagers in mid-May during a similar protest near the prison site.

More than a hundred Palestinian prisoners have gone on hunger strike since April 24 to protest their indefinite detention without charge or trial. Hundreds more have joined them since the strike began.

The original 100 hunger strikers have all been hospitalized within the past week, while thousands have attended solidarity protests with them across the West Bank and Gaza Strip under the banner of “Water and Salt,” a reference to the daily diet of the hunger strikers.

Palestinian prisoner human rights organization Addameer estimates that nearly 183 Palestinians are currently being held by Israeli authorities in “administrative detention.”

Over 800,000 Palestinians have been detained since 1967, with 5,224 currently being held in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
