Official: Iran Exporting Choppers, Air Industry Services

Managing-Director of the Iranian Armed Forces’ Aviation Industries Organization Manouchehr Manteqi said that Iran is currently exporting products and services in air and airspace fields to 27 world countries.

Speaking in a press conference on the sidelines of an exhibition of Iran’s achievements in air and aerospace industries, Manteqi said Iran is exporting products and services to 27 different countries, and noted that the exports “include technology, services, airplane overhauling, subsystems and choppers.”

“The value of exports stood at $50mln last (Iranian) year (March 2011 – March 2012) and we are seeking to increase it to $75mln this year (ends on March 2013),” the official underscored.

Iran has recently made good progress in the air industry and has succeeded in gaining the technical know-how for producing stealth aircraft and drones.

In June, Manteqi had underlined Iran’s capabilities in aviation and aerospace technologies, and said his organization can manufacture any number of home-made Iran-140 planes in 6 months.

“When the plane is ordered to us (for production), we prepare it in about 6 months,” Manteqi told FNA at the time, dismissing media reports that Iran has faced problems in manufacturing Iran-140 planes.

Noting that the home-made Iran-140 planes used for marine patrolling missions are built in two heavy and light types, he said, “These kinds of airplanes are rare in the world; only three world countries build light planes and Iran is among them.”

The IRAN-140 is a double-engine turboprop aircraft which can fly almost 1,865 miles before re-fuelling and its passenger model seats 52 people.
