Oman’s top diplomat visits Iran for talks

The Omani Foreign Minister has arrived in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials on economic and regional issues.

Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah met with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki, on Tuesday. In the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister called for greater momentum in completing joint economic ventures between the two countries.

Mottaki said Iran’s potential to expand its roads, railways and ports could create a great capacity for bilateral economic projects.

Alawi, for his part, said that his country was keen to boost its trade with Iran, particularly in the industrial, construction and gas sectors.

He also described Iran as a strategic bridge that connects the Persian Gulf to Central Asia, and said that Muscat was eager to use its relations with the Islamic Republic to establish new trade ties with countries in the region.

During the meeting, the two diplomats also discussed developments in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan.
