Ousted Dictator Mubarak trial adjourned until Sept. 5

The trial of Egypt’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak and his former interior minister Habib al-Adly has been adjourned until September 5, the court’s Judge Ahmed Refaat says.

Refaat also announced that Mubarak and al-Adly, who face the death penalty if found guilty, will be tried simultaneously.

The judge also barred television cameras from entering the court, and said the trial will be held behind closed doors.

On Monday, Mubarak arrived at the Cairo court to stand trial for the second time after a popular uprising put an end to his prolonged ruling in February.

In the first court session on August 3, Mubarak pleaded not guilty and denied the charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the 18-day revolution that lead to his downfall.

Adly has already been sentenced to 12 years in prison for corruption.

About 850 protesters were killed during the historic revolution in Egypt.

Mubarak is the first Arab leader to stand trial in person since popular uprisings swept the Arab world.
