At least 100 people have been injured in mass rallies marking the second anniversary of Egypt’s revolution after clashes erupted between protesters and police in major cities.

Protesters set fire to the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters in the northeastern city of Ismailia on Friday as Egyptians staged nationwide rallies against President Mohamed Morsi on the second anniversary of the revolution that toppled longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

The party said protesters also attempted to storm one of its offices in the Cairo district of Tawfiqia.

In Alexandria, police fired tear gas and warning shots to disperse protesters who burned tires and blocked roads in some neighborhoods.

Security forces also clashed with stone-throwing protesters near government offices and the state television building in Cairo.

Among the crowds were several opposition leaders including Hamdeen Sabbahi and Mohamed ElBaradei, who had called for a massive turnout on Friday’s anti-Morsi protests.

The opposition accuses Morsi of failing to meet his campaign promises and putting himself above the law.
