Over 250 ISIL Terrorists Surrender to Army in Northern Deir Ezzur

The Syrian army continued its military operations in Huweija Kate region North of the city of Deir Ezzur and forced at least 250 ISIL terrorists to surrender themselves.

In the army’s military operations in Huweija Kate Island North of Deir Ezzur city, a large number of ISIL terrorists laid down their arms and handed over themselves to the Syrian army’s special forces.

Meantime, a military source confirmed that over 250 ISIL terrorists had surrendered and a large amount of weapons and ammunition were also confiscated from them.

In a relevant development on Friday, it was reported that the ISIL terrorist group has faced serious trouble in the town of Albu Kamal in Southeastern Deir Ezzur after the Syrian Army and popular forces closed off the terrorist group’s last supply line to the town.

The army and the popular forces, led by the elite Tiger Forces, managed to retake the strategic Hamdan Airbase that overlooks Albu Kamal from its Northern direction.

With the Hamdan Airbase liberated, the pro-government forces have successfully imposed fire control over the main roadway that leads to Albu Kamal and the Euphrates River.

The Syrian Army will likely try to cross the Euphrates River in the coming days as they attempt to besiege the ISIL’s stronghold.

Six Russian long-range bombers carried out airstrikes targeting ISIL terrorist positions in an area located close to Albu Kamal in the Southeast of the country on Thursday.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the strikes destroyed ISIL hideouts and military equipment in the area.

The TU-22m3 bombers took off from an airfield in Russia and then flew over the territories of Iran and Iraq to carry out the strikes.

As the bombers entered Syrian airspace, they were joined by Su-30SM fighter jets based at Humeimim Airbase in Western Syria, which provided cover for the attack group, the ministry said, adding that the bombers successfully “hit all the designated targets” and returned to Russia.

Over the first three days of November alone, Tu-22M3 long-range bombers carried out 18 strikes against ISIL terrorists in Eastern Syria, according to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Igor Konashenkov. In addition, the submarines ‘Veliky Novgorod’ and ‘Kolpino’ carried out nine strikes from the Mediterranean Sea.

The Russian Air Force has been assisting the Syrian Army in its fight against terrorists for about two years. Russia launched its anti-terrorist operation in Syria at the request of the Syrian government in September 2015. In March 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the partial withdrawal of the Russian Air Force from Syria and said that the primary objective of the operation had been achieved. The remaining aircraft, however, continue to assist the Syrian Army in its fight against terrorists.
