PA, Israel peace talks inconclusive

US-brokered peace talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel will be inconclusive due to their failure to address the issue of the Palestinian nation, an Iranian lawmaker says.

“These negotiations will be definitely doomed to failure because the issue of the Palestinian nation is disregarded,” IRNA quoted member of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Majlis (Parliament) Hossein Sobhaninia as saying on Tuesday.

“The United States made a lot of efforts to bond Israel with countries of the region, but all its efforts were futile,” he added.

Sobhaninia argued that the US as the initiator of the peace talks has neglected observing the rights of the “oppressed people of Palestine” and is going to hold talks with those who are not representing the Palestinian nation.

In a new move, Washington proposed hosting renewed direct talks between Israel and Palestine on September 2.

Previous talks were quit by the Palestinian Authority after Tel Aviv launched an all-out war on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,400 Palestinians at the turn of 2009.
