‘Pakistan cooperating with Iran over border raid’

Iran’s interior minister says Islamabad is cooperating well with Tehran on the case of a recent attack on Iranian border guards by Pakistan-based Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group.

“The necessary follow-ups have been carried out by the country (Iran)’s Foreign Ministry,“ Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli told reporters in the southwestern Iranian city of Shahrekord on Monday.

He added that talks have been held with Pakistani authorities on measures to arrest the perpetrators behind the terror attack, and that the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad is pursuing the case.

He said the two sides have agreed to seriously follow up the case until the terrorists are apprehended.

Fourteen Iranian border guards lost their lives and six more were wounded in a shooting assault in the border region of Saravan in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on October 25.

Jaish-ul-Adl terrorists had infiltrated into Iran from Pakistan and fled back to Pakistani territory following the attack.

On October 29, the Iranian Foreign Ministry called on Pakistan to identify, arrest and extradite the perpetrators of the terrorist attack.

Pakistani Additional Secretary of Foreign Ministry Masroor A. Junejo denounced the terrorist attack, vowing to make every effort to identify those behind the assault.

In February, Iran and Pakistan signed a security agreement under which both countries are required to cooperate in preventing and combating organized crime, fighting terrorism and countering activities which pose a threat to the national security of either country.
