The Iranian Army’s Ground Forces plan to test-fire three types of new indigenous missiles during an upcoming military drill which will probably be conducted by the end of the current Persian calendar year (ending on March 20, 2013).

The missiles which have undergone lab tests will be test-fired during the planned maneuver, said Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari in a Saturday interview.

If approved by the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, the war game will be carried out in central Iran before the end of the current Iranian year, Heidari noted.

During the planned drill, some sections of the missile unit of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces will be used in massive combat and operational tactics.

Over the past years, Iran has attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

On February 10, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Mehdi Farahi said Iranian forces had successfully tested the country’s latest indigenous air-to-air missile, Fakour, from F14 fighter jets.

The latest version of Iran’s indigenous surface-to-air missile, Ra’d (Thunder), was also test-fired on December 31, 2012.
