The ISIL terrorist group executed over a dozen senior commanders and burnt their bodies in the city of Mosul in Iraq’s Northern Nineveh province on charges of trying to defect the Takfiri terrorist group.

“A sum of 15 former ISIL commanders who had been in jail in the Western part of Mosul after the they tried to defect the militant group were executed,” the Arab media outlets quoted Head of Nineveh Police Mohammad al-Jabouri as saying on Sunday.

He noted that the ISIL burnt the bodies of the executed commanders after they were shot dead.

In late October, the ISIL terrorist group executed some 200 of its militants who tried to leave the group.

The Syrian observatory for human rights claimed that the ISIL group has executed some 200 defectors who tried to leave its ranks to join al-Qaeda affiliated al-Nusra Front.

A former ISIL operative who asked not to be named told the observatory that the defectors, mostly Chechen nationals and individuals from Central Asia, were hanged to death for attempting to leave to al-Nusra Front.

According to the operative, the defectors decided to join al-Nusra Front due to intentions to fight back against the Syrian army which is advancing against the Takfiri terrorist groups.
