Palestinian hunger striker Mohammad Allan has given the Tel Aviv regime an ultimatum, vowing to continue the protest action if Israel does not resolve his case in a day.

The warning on Tuesday came only hours after Allan regained his consciousness in an Israeli hospital. Allan lapsed into a coma on August 14 after refusing food for two months.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said in a statement that Allan has “declared in front of his doctors that if there is not any solution to his case within 24 hours, he will ask for all treatment to stop and will stop drinking water.”

Allan started hunger strike on June 18 in protest against his detention without any clear charges by Israel.

The 31-year-old has been held by Israel since November 2014. Doctors had tried to intravenously give him water and salts while he was connected to a respirator. Allan’s lawyers had called for his release on medical grounds but Israeli courts have until now rejected the demand.

During a court session on Monday, one of the doctors said that resumption of hunger strike by Allan would put him into a fatal decline. A new session of his court is planned for Wednesday.

Israel on Tuesday offered to free Allan if he accepts to leave his West Bank hometown of Einabus and go abroad for a period of four years. Allan’s lawyers said he has rejected the offer.

Palestinians in Israeli jails regularly go on hunger strike in protest at both the unfair administrative detention policy as well as the harsh prison conditions in Israeli jails.

More than 7,000 Palestinians are reportedly incarcerated in 17 Israeli prisons and detention centers, many of them without charge or trial.
