Palestinian killed in Israeli gunfire

Israeli forces have killed a Palestinian man and wounded five others in tank shelling and gunfire attack on Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip.

Hassan Abu Rok, 22, was killed in the Israeli gunfire attack on the village of Khuza’a, east of Khan Yunis on Tuesday, said Hamas spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya.

Witnesses said they heard huge explosions after the tanks fired several shells at the residents’ houses.

“Israeli army tanks stationed at the borders between south-east Gaza Strip and Israel fired several shells at the village of Khuza’a, where Abu Rook was killed and five wounded,” said Abu Selmeya.

Two of the wounded civilians are in serious condition, he added.

The Israeli army made no immediate comment on the incident.

The incident comes two days after two Palestinians died in Khan Yunis after Israeli soldiers launched a gun battle in the area.

The Israeli military has repeatedly waged attacks on Gaza since its massive 22-day war on the territory at the turn of 2009.

However, during this month, there has been a surge of violence along the Israeli-Gaza border.
