Palestinian Prisoners in Nafha jail announce hunger strike
Palestinians held in Israel’s Nafha jail will go on hunger strike on Tuesday in solidarity with Maysara Abu Hamdiyeh, a detainee with cancer, the Palestinian Prisoners Society said Monday.
Prisoners are planning to escalate protests in solidarity with sick detainees, the PPS said in a statement.
Abu Hamdiyeh is being treated at Soroka prison for cancer, which has spread from his throat to his spinal cord.
Prisoner affairs minister Issa Qaraqe has said Abu Hamdiyeh’s condition worsened because of medical neglect by Israeli prison authorities.
Qaraqe said Monday that Israeli authorities would release Abu Hamdiyeh in the coming days.
