Medical authorities say a Palestinian shot and critically injured by Israeli regime forces during a demonstration in the Gaza Strip last week has died of his wounds.

Gaza’s Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said 20-year-old Yahya Karira succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening after being shot in the head during skirmishes between Israeli military forces and Palestinian protesters in the eastern part of Gaza Strip a week earlier.

Earlier in the day, around 65 Palestinians were injured as the Israeli forces used live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas during clashes across Gaza.

Qidra said six people were injured during scuffles in Gaza City’s eastern neighborhood of Shuja’iyya. One protester was hit with live fire, while two others were struck with rubber-coated bullets.

Another Palestinian was shot by live rounds in the feet, and one more with a rubber bullet in the head in the northern sector of Gaza Strip.

Additionally, four Palestinians were shot with live fire in Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip. They are reportedly in critical condition in hospital.

A Palestinian was also targeted with live rounds during a demonstration near Beit Hanoun city on the northeastern edge of the Gaza Strip.

The reports come as a fresh wave of tensions, triggered by the Israeli regime’s imposition in August of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque, has gripped the occupied Palestinian territories.

Palestinians are also angry at increasing violence by Israeli settlers who frequently storm the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. They say the Tel Aviv regime seeks to change the status quo of the compound.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 54 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds of others injured since the Israeli regime began a harsh crackdown in early October on the Palestinians.
