Palestinians playing key role in Syria’s victory against ISIL

The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) ongoing offensive offensive against the Islamic State (ISIL) in central Syria has been incredibly successful, as their forces have liberated a significant portion of the vast Syrian Desert that was once firmly under the terrorist group’s control.

However, the Syrian Arab Army success has not come without the help of their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwaa Fatemiyoun,  Hezbollah, and several Palestinian military units.

In particular, the Palestinian paramilitaries have played an integral role in the battle against ISIL, aiding the army in heated battles with the terrorist group and even carrying out independent attacks to liberate new lands.

While most of the Palestinian units fight side-by-side with the Syrian Army, groups like the Al-Quds Brigade, Galilee Forces, Arab Nationalist Guard, and Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) have been known to lead their own operations in the Syrian Desert, often coordinating with the Syrian Air Force to attack ISIL.

The Palestinian paramilitaries are now turning their attention to the Deir Ezzor Governorate, where they hope to help lift the two year long siege imposed by the Islamic State on the provincial capital.

With their fighting experience in rural Damascus (PLA and Arab Nationalist Guard) and Aleppo (Galilee Forces and Al-Quds Brigade), these Palestinian paramilitaries will prove even more vital as the battle reaches the doorsteps of Deir Ezzor.
