Senior Advisor to Afghan President Mohammad Mohaqqeq expressed concern that the terrorist activities in Syria and Iraq are spreading to his country.

“The incidents happening in Iraq and Syria have recently spread to Afghanistan,” Mohaqqeq said in a meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader’s top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati in Tehran on Wednesday.

He expressed regret that more terrorist attacks have been conducted against the Afghan people in recent months.

Velayati, for his part, underlined Iran’s support for the Afghan people and government to help them resolve their problems soon.

He also referred to the Afghan foreign minister’s recent visit to Pakistan, and expressed the hope that the peace process between the two countries would witness progress.

Earlier this month, at least 15 people were killed and over 400 others were wounded in the deadly truck bomb blast in Afghanistan’s capital.

The attack happened after US intelligence officials said that the ISIL has now expanded from Syria-Iraq to Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya and Algeria.

They added that the terror group also has supporters in Europe, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Yemen.

The Islamic State is expanding beyond its base in Syria and Iraq to establish militant affiliates in Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt and Libya, US intelligence officials asserted.

Intelligence officials estimated that the group’s fighters number 20,000 to 31,500 in Syria and Iraq.
