Poll: Only Quarter of Americans Satisfied with Country’s Direction

One in four Americans is satisfied with the direction of the country, according to a new poll.
Gallup said the proportion of people who like where the country is heading, 24 percent, marks a leveling off in their monthly readings after a sharp dip around the federal spending stalemate. Last year’s high came in April, with 30 percent of the people expressing satisfaction with the nation’s direction, Washington Times reported.

Viewpoints are often colored by political affiliation, Gallup said.

“Democrats remain significantly more likely than independents or Republicans to be satisfied, as has been the case each month since President Barack Obama took office in 2009,” it said. “This pattern is not unusual; Americans who identify with the party of the sitting president typically are more satisfied than those who don’t identify with his party.”
