President Ahmadinejad departs for Doha

IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left Tehran on Sunday afternoon for Doha, Qatar, to confer with the country’s Emir on ways to expand Tehran-Doha cooperation.

Prior to leaving Tehran, President Ahmadinejad said that his visit to Qatar aims to exchange views with Qatari leader on international and regional developments.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar as two neighboring states enjoy profound and amicable ties as the two governments have adopted identical stand toward the regional and global developments.”

President Ahmadinejad said that the two countries have jointly implemented many significant regional and international projects and are to continue with such cooperation in various fields such as energy, transport and commerce.

The two countries’ officials are determined to widen scope of cooperation through exchange of timely visits, he said.

Other issues to be discussed in the meeting would be current development in the Persian Gulf region, recent devastating flood in Pakistan as well as issues pertaining to the Muslim World and Palestine in particular, said President Ahmadinejad.

The Iranian president is also to attend an Iftar banquet hosted by Qatari Emir in his honor.

I.R.Iran and Qatar have recently inked an agreement on expansion of judiciary cooperation and the ground is well-prepared to cooperate in the campaign against organized crime.
